Veterinary Medicine in Peru

LEARN VETERINARY MEDICINE IN PERU - 11 Days

Combine the best of Peru adventure travel with a 19 CME course in Veterinary GI Medicine and Surgery with Dr. Michael Lappin while enjoying your hike along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu followed by a relaxing lodge stay in the Amazon jungle!

We begin our Machu Picchu. Peru hiking trip in Cusco exploring the ruins called Sacsayhuaman and acclimatizing to the 11.000-foot elevation. Our second day, we drive into the Sacred Valley, wander through the market place of Pisac, and visit the town of Ollytambambo. We overnight at the Mirador de Los Incas on the Urabamba River.

On our fourth day, its time to hit the Inca Trail! After an early morning bus ride, we start our trek and visit archeological sights at Wilkaray and pass numerous sites of ancient terracing. At night, we camp along the Trail just as the Inca’s did so many years ago. Over the next day, we pass through the incredible cloud forests and slowly work our way up the first pass at 14.000 feet and then descend down to the ruins at Runkurakay to our camp.

The following day, we ascend to our second 13.000-foot pass with a visit to the archeological sites of Sayacmara located out on the edge of the jungle. We then arrive at the spectacular Sun Gate of Machu Picchu in the golden light of afternoon when the last tourist buses have left the ruins. We spend the night in the small town of Aguas Calientes nestled in the steep Urubamba river valley. In the morning, we venture back by bus up the twisty road back to Machu Picchu where we spend most of the day exploring. In the late afternoon, we climb aboard a first-class train for a ride back to Cusco.

From Cusco, we fly to Puerto Maldonado and then paddle 4 hours up river in dugout canoe to the Jungle Lodge Reserva Amzonica. We spend our last day exploring the Amazon Jungle with a naturalist guide before traveling back downriver for our flight back to Lima.
