“Thank you for an incredible trip, one which will always bring a smile and laugh to our faces when we remember it and you. The music, food, wine and love made the Bio Bio even more spectacular than it already is. Thanks for getting us home safely.” - Mary and Hal
Climbing Mount Aconcagua in Argentina - 16-20 Days
Join us on our newest climbing trip on Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, the highest point in the Americas and crown jewel of the Andes Mountains towering 22,831 feet (6,959 meters). Our 12 day trip occurs in February, the optimal month to summit this challenging and impressive Argentinian peak.
This high altitude climbing and hiking expedition is an excellent challenge for anybody in good shape with a healthy sense of humor and an appetite for true exploration and adventure combining beautiful views, strenuous hiking and the humility one experiences in true wilderness, surrounded by the majesty of the Andes.
Our Argentinian treking and climbing trip begins in the beauty of the Argentine wine growing region, the province of Mendoza, world renown for its municipal park, the second largest in the world, it's charming sidewalk cafés and delicious Malbec wines, steak houses and Italian gelato ice cream. Our first couple of days we enjoy these local delights in Mendoza, leaving Day Three for the ski resort of Penitentes, where we begin our 2 day hike to Plaza de Mulas. Departing on the Horcones trail to the Confluencia Camp, we begin our acclimatization at 12,000 feet, hiking 5 or so hours with our moderate packs.
The following day, we continue on to Plaza Francia at the base of Pared Surâ, the south face rock wall of Aconcagua. After a second night at Confluencia Camp, we work our way up the Horcones Valley to the Plaza de Mulas at 14,200 feet. After a day of relaxation, we get ready to summit the Bonete Peak at 17,000 feet.
Our ninth day, we rest again in preparation for the next day's climb to Nido de Condorâ, our next camp at 17.553 feet. After one more night at Plaza de Mulas, we hike back to Nido de Condor. The next morning, we leave for Berlin Camp at 19,062 feet.
On our thirteenth day, we summit leaving early in the morning and weather permitting, reach the summit of Aconcagua after an 8 hour climb up and 4 hour hike down. We collapse in exhaustion but are united in triumph having climbed the tallest peak in the Americas!
Hiking back to Plaza de Mulas, we have a festive celebratory dinner and travel home via Penitentes and Mendoza.
