The History of Bio Bio Expeditions

The History of Bio Bio Expeditions

The heritage of Bio Bio is the story of a strong friendship which began many years ago between the two owners of the company. Marc Goddard and Laurence Alvarez-Roos when they were young rivals playing soccer against each other in high school. After battling it out on the field, these two adventurous souls spent years traveling the world and working as rafting guides in Africa, Chile, Peru, Costa Rica, Siberia, Nepal and California.  The photo of Marc and Laurence on the upper right was taken in 1988 on their first private Grand Canyon trip just above Lava Falls. The photo onthe lower left shows the humble beginings of Bio Bio Expeditions - Marc and Laurence with their small raft tackling the mighty south fork of the American in 1983. Marc and Laurence went on to become raft guides on the Bio Bio River in 1991 and personally guided over 65 trips on this infamous South America river. They became known as the "Bio Bio boys" and fell in love with everything Chile had to offer.

When the Bio Bio River was dammed in 1998. Marc and Laurence adopted the river's name as their company name "Bio Bio Expeditions" our of respect and admiration for the wild river that plunges through steep and narrow gorges from the Andes to the Pacific coast of Chile. From its origins with the Bio Bio River, the company began offering trips to the rivers and valleys of Patagonia and built a wilderness camp on the banks of the Futaleufu River.

Bio Bio Expeditions now offers adventure travel vacations around the world and specializes in adventure trips in Chile, Africa, Peru, Costa Rica, the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, Argentina and Siberia as well as California whitewater rafting trips.
