Bio Bio Expedition's history in Africa began in 1989 when the owners of Bio Bio Expeditions worked as river rafting guides on the iconic Zambezi River. Both men fell in love with Africa and after competing there with Team California, the U.S. Rafting Team in the mid '90s, each has logged over 150 descents of the mighty Zambezi River which flows between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Since 1995, both Marc and Laurence have truly enjoyed bringing adventure travelers to Africa enjoy the magic of rafting the bubbly and thrilling waters of the Zambezi, the heights of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro and experience the friendliness and warmth of the African people. Our desire to know more of Africa led us to Tanzania's Mt. Kilimanjaro in 1998 where we spread our whitewater wings and discovered a deep love for this amazing mountain. We knew that we would be able to create a trek to the Rooftop of Africa unlike any that were being offered – with our signature style! Since then we were chosen as the sole outfitter for the Wilderness Medicine field courses on Kilimanjaro and developed our adventure travel itinerary with the input of high altitude expert Dr. Howard Donner. In both destinations, the Zambezi and Kilimanjaro, we have developed lifelong friendships and partnerships with local africans who play a large part in the trip, enhancing the cultural exchange. In both destinations we employ world-class outdoor guides and include top-of-the-line equipment, beautiful accommodations, and, unique safari experiences that are off-the-beaten-path. Lastly, for our guests who want to customize their African adventure, we have partnered with the luxury company Wilderness Safaris to offer private extensions and add-ons to any of our incredible Zambezi or Kilimanjaro adventure travel itineraries.
